Graceful plunge into fast-paced story
Like diving off of a high-dive into a deep pool Higgans’ graceful plunge into the voice of her characters is effortless and clean. Her story about a fraught relationship between a woman (Emma) and the grandmother who raised her (Genevieve) is fast-paced and beautiful in how clearly we ache at their misunderstanding of each other.
The summer they spend together will be one in which secrets unravel, love interests emerge, and, ultimately, forgiveness is won. These two women are the focal point of the story, but they’re surrounded by a multitude of characters Higgans weaves artfully into the narrative. Entertaining and satisfying story.
